Description This is a clip from silent footage prepared as part of the production process of a segment to be included in the 30 June 1950 weekly episode of Movietone News, a black-and-white newsreel. The clip begins with the title screen 'NEWPORT, N.S.W. / POUNDING SEAS BRING NOVELTY IN THEIR WAKE / MOVIETONE NEWS'. Sets of waves are shown crashing on the headlands and then breaking high up on the beach, eroding the main sand dune. Large crowds watch as a large building is threatened. A dump truck is shown unloading sand and workers are shown trying to save the building by constructing rock walls and shovelling sand.
